Dionysia Greek Wine Festival at Kellari kicks off today in New York
Back by popular demand, Kellari Taverna is proud to announce its 2011 Dionysia Festival, honoring the Greek god of wine.
Each year, during the harvesting of the grapes, the Greek people gather together to celebrate Dionysus, the mythical god of wine and festivities. This celebration dates back to the 6th century, B.C. Dionysia is a joyous time with an abundant feast of hearty foods and flowing wine. The streets come alive with people eating, drinking and dancing to the sounds of Bouzouki.
DAILY WINE TASTINGS! The festival kicks off October 3 with complimentary wine tastings daily from 5-8 p.m. featuring Greek grape varietals from various regions of the country, including Assyrtiko from Santorini and Xinomavro from Northern Greece. Each day, different Greek wine producers will be on hand to speak about the grapes’ characteristics, growing conditions, and aromas.
PRIX FIXE MENU! A special four-course prix-fixe dinner menu including Greek wine pairings for $59.95 will be served each night beginning at 4 p.m. The complete Dionysia menu features Loukaniko (air-dried Greek-style sausage), quail with braised fennel, braised Rabbit Stifado with Koumantaria sauce, and more.
