Greek Orthodox Church celebrates 25th festival in Manatee in Manatee County
The Greek Glendi festival is back on the Suncoast. The festival - now in its 26th year - is a celebration of Greek culture, history, and religious traditions.
The event features delicious Greek cuisine; 20 vendors with authentic clothing, jewelry, and novelties from Greece; and a tour of the newly-remodeled St. Barbara's Church.
The four day festival brings in 16,000 people every year; most are non-Greeks. "It gets bigger and bigger every year. Now it's like Ringling Bros. Barnum and Bailey," says festival chairman George Karabatsos.
The Greek Glendi festival runs now through Sunday at St. Barbara's Church on Lockwood Ridge Road near the intersection with Tallevast Road in south Manatee County.
Admission is $4 and children under 12 are free.
